Bigger is Better

Sometimes bigger is better. With marketing and advertising, you want to grab your clients’ attention within seconds and make a lasting impression. When it comes to signs and displays for a new product launch, for flagship stores, for an event, the bigger the better.

A design agency came to us and asked us to build an 8ft sign as a statement piece featured in the company’s headquarters.

Why did the client come to us?

First, our massive build envelope. Our team here at Think Variant has the capability to 3D print huge parts, 54 inches in our smallest direction. This huge sign can be even bigger with sectional fabrication. This means we can make huge parts even bigger by joining them together.

In order to make this sign in most fabrication shops, you would need an expensive 3 axis CNC machine to create curved slopes and recessed lips the client requested. Additionally, the size of this sign was bigger than any standard sheet stock available on the market. In order to fabricate this in most fabrication shops, your team would have to splice together multiple sheets, adding time, material, and complexity. One of the advantages to our massive 3D Printer, The Vault, is that we can easily build complex shapes that would be impossible or difficult for traditional fabrication, saving you time and reducing your costs.

To build giant signs and displays, traditional fabrication shops would use foam, sheet material, styrofoam, or other materials that are not environmentally friendly and never break down. These end up as micro plastics in our water systems. For this huge sign, the team here at Think Variant uses biodegradable materials, making the end product lightweight and as a plus, environmentally friendly.

Our team incorporates specific design features, such as mounting holes into the print itself. Therefore, neon lights lined up and attached perfectly. The client had such an easy time attaching the massive sign to the wall because of our integrated printed mounting system and because it was so lightweight.

The orange, teal, and yellow were 100% perfectly matched to the designer’s Pantone colors, a feature and process unique to Think Variant.

When it comes to signs and display items for a new product launch, for flagship stores, for events and trade shows, Think Variant. Think the Vault 3D Printer.
